Something a little different... | Pet Photography in Loughborough

How’s things? I haven’t spoken to you for a while! As I write this I’m sitting at the side of an athletics tracking freezing my bits off. This seems to be life for me now; turns out I have a sporty child.

Winter is a funny time for an outdoor photographer. You spend most of it cooped up in the office doing all of the jobs that you’ve put off all year… website refresh…tax return…yawn…

So this year I decided to embark upon a personal project. Which basically means shooting whatever I fancy whilst keeping my hand in.

You may have seen on my facebook page that I asked for some 4 legged models. The response I received was fantastic. It turns out people really want to have portraits of their dogs - I don’t know why I’m surprised, my own fur baby is my 3rd child (he really is. Actually. Make that 4th; I also have a husband!) and I love my photos of him. In fact, I wish I had pictures of all my pets when I was growing up - we just didn’t take many photos in the days before mobile phones (yes, that does make me feel old).

So far, I have photographed 6 little stunners (the last 2 are waiting to be edited and they totally tested my action skills!). I knew I’d enjoy it - I used to work at a dog kennels for 50p/hr after all. But I honestly had no idea what to expect.

In my short journey I have already learnt the following:

  • If you lie on the floor the dogs will run over and lick your face. It is non-negotiable.

  • Always get the “pretty” shots early on. It turns out that dogs love wearing mud…and grass…and other stuff they can roll in that doesn’t smell pleasant.

  • Dogs poo a lot. I don’t know whether to put it down to stage fright but we’re talking like 3/4 times a walk….now I know exercise can bring one on, but really?

  • Dogs are completely driven by their bellies - they will do whatever you want when a treat is involved … they will even smile!

Well I have to say that so far I have had an absolute blast!!

So what next? The reason for photographing the dogs was to capture better photos of them on my family photo shoots; but I have LOVED it so much that I am going to offer pet portraits and I am so blooming excited about this!

If you’re interested in having a pet portrait in the Leicestershire area please register your interest here - the first sessions that I do will be heavily discounted!

Some of my favourite shots are below; i’d love to hear what you think (you can tell me in the comments below)…

The sessions will last up to an hour, I will fully edit the best photos from the shoot from which you will be able to choose your favourites.
