The shoot of 2 halves! | Outdoor Family Photographer

Things don’t always go to plan!

Hands up if you have more than 1 child? Hands up if you’ve got lots of photographs of your eldest child when they were little? Hands up if you’ve got lots of photographs of your 2nd child? 3rd? Oh dear.

Don’t feel bad! It’s absolutely normal - life gets so busy when there’s more than one - it doesn’t mean you love them any less! In fact, it’s my clients’ most common reason for wanting a shoot - “we haven’t got any photos of the little one”.

Jacqui wanted to capture some of her little girl as she’s growing so quickly and there are pictures of both of the boys hanging up in the house but none of her baby. So the brief was mainly to focus on capturing her daughter.

But it seemed silly not to include the boys for a few photographs in order to update the family albums.

A date was set for the end of the summer and we’d found the perfect location. A flower meadow about 50 yards from the car-park of our school (I know Jacqui as she’s a school mum!). Outfits had been chosen and the date was getting closer and then, disaster. Child no.2 (T) had fallen and grazed his face. Now normally, I can do a bit of clever editing and remove the offending mark (i only remove things that are temporary, such as blemishes and marks unless told otherwise). However, this was a pretty epic graze - I saw Jacqui at school just after it had happened and she was so disappointed as I know she’d been really looking forward to the shoot.

Not a problem. We decided to make the shoot mostly about M (her little girl) and T was instructed to turn his face to hide his graze whenever he was in the picture!! hahaha…poor child.

Jacqui turned up with a bubble machine which was amazing - with the sun low, the photographs came out brilliantly. On the walk from the cars, B (Jacqui’s eldest) told me that he really wasn’t keen on having his photograph taken - which I totally get and was so glad that he’d told me. As a result I made sure that he knew what to do and gave him the role of being M’s entertainment. The boys were fantastic and whilst we didn't have a full gallery we’d ticked the box of capturing M’s cuteness and baby looks.

A second date was set, giving T plenty of time to heal and ensuring that Dad could come along too. it’s so important to me that my clients end up with a set of photographs that they love and I have an attitude of all problems can be overcome.

The 2nd shoot took place at Beacon Hill, the family totally rocked it and I am really happy with the final gallery that was delivered to the family.

We created 2 gorgeous frames - of M on her own and another of all 3 children! The frames match the family’s living room decor perfectly and I hope they will give them pleasure for many years to come!

Here’s a selection of my favourites…
