How to prepare for your Brand Photoshoot.
Congratulations! You’ve taken the plunge and booked your photoshoot.
You’re a step closer to receiving a set of beautiful images that will help you to show the face behind your business.
So, what on earth do you wear? Don’t worry, I’ve put together this handy guide to help you.
When considering the following suggestions, you need to feel comfortable and confident on the day of your shoot - it’s really important that you look like YOU in the photographs. If you usually wear a bit of mascara and live in trainers, it would not be authentic to photograph you in stilettos with full hair and makeup. Conversely, if you love dressing up then go for it!
What we are looking to capture is the best version of YOU.
Clothing
Try to incorporate your brand colours or choose complimentary colours that will sit well on your website and social media pages
Choose colours that suit you - did you know that you can discover your perfect colour pallette with House of Colour? They have stylists located throughout the UK.
Try to avoid too much black and/or white. Black/white trousers with a coloured top will be ok or a black/white top with a coloured jacket would work, but black and white can be quite severe so I would recommend choosing a neutral that is a little softer - cream, navy and grey work well and can also be worn with other colours.
Wear solid colours - logos and patterns can be distracting as can showing too much skin. Wearing a low-cut top or short dress will draw the viewers eyes away from your face. A subtle pattern can work well if broken up with a solid colour eg. a jacket or trousers.
Try to avoid thin stripes as these can look distorted in your images and they may emphasise areas you wish to draw attention away from.
Choose clothes that fit well - too tight and you will look like you’re bulging out of them and too loose and you may look bigger than you are.
Bring a couple of options along - a change of top, jacket, accessories can really add variety to your images.
Don’t wear clothes that are bobbled, creased or dirty - you want to avoid any unnecessary editing costs!
Don’t wear a dark polo neck - they can make you look as though you don’t have a neck!
Most importantly, choose clothes that make you feel good! Your confidence will shine through in the photographs
hair and Makeup
Hair and makeup are incredibly personal and it’s important that you feel good on the day, so these are just some suggestions, remember to stay within your comfort zone. I know it’s tempting, but please avoid experimenting with a new look.
Generally, I find hair tends to look more flattering in photos when it’s down. You could use your photoshoot as a good excuse to book in at your favourite salon for a blow-dry…
I would recommend wearing a slightly heavier version of the make-up that you wear every day. Remember, we want you to look like a polished version of work you, not party you!
I know a fabulous make-up artist if you’d prefer to be in the hands of a professional, we have worked together many times and she knows what works well for photographs.
Glasses
Please ensure that they are clean and in a good state of repair for your photoshoot. Glasses can cause issues with reflections, so I might take some shots with them and some without.
The night before
I recommend having everything ready for the next day. Try your outfits on, to make sure that everything is clean and works well together. Drink plenty of water and try to get a good night’s sleep!
finally…
Enjoy the process! Please don’t get stressed about it, these are just guidelines. Ultimately, you need to feel relaxed. Speaking of which, I can’t wait to photograph you - I promise, we are going to have a BLAST!
